Manage DNS records
How to add, edit, and delete DNS records in Sites > Domain for a domain whose nameservers you moved to Weekerp.
For a domain connected with the nameserver method, Weekerp manages the DNS. Records such as mail and subdomains now take effect only when you change them in Weekerp. Changes made at your old provider won't take effect.
If you connected with the record (CNAME) method, your DNS stays at your original provider. If Sites > Domain shows "Change records where you manage the domain", make changes at that provider.
Open the records screen
- Open Sites > Domain in the sidebar.
- Click DNS records › on the domain row. If Weekerp manages only one domain, the records screen opens right away.
Add a record
- Click Add record.
- Choose a type and enter a name and value.
- Name: The name in front of the domain. Use
@for the domain itself (e.g.@,www,mail). - Value: For several values, put one per line. For MX, put the priority first, like
10 mail.example.com. - TTL: A number of 1 or more.
- Name: The name in front of the domain. Use
- Click Save. Saving takes effect on the live DNS right away.
Types you can create: A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV, CAA
Edit · delete a record
- Click Edit on a row to change its value and TTL. You can't change the name or type. To change them, delete the record and add a new one.
- Click Delete on a row to delete it right away after confirming. Only owners and admins can delete.
Reading the status labels
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Proxied | A site address connected to Weekerp. Visitors go through Weekerp, and the value is the origin address Weekerp fetches your site from. Editing the value changes the origin right away |
| DNS only | The value is written to DNS as is, without going through Weekerp. These are regular records such as mail |
| Managed by Weekerp | Records used to connect your site, so they can't be edited or deleted (CDN connection, certificate validation, NS, SOA) |
If you delete a TXT row containing a Google verification value (
google-site-verification=), your Google Search Console verification is undone.
Nameserver status
The Nameservers card above the records screen shows the values to enter at your domain registrar and whether they have taken effect.
| Status | What to do |
|---|---|
| Nameservers not changed yet | Change the nameservers where you bought the domain to the values on the card |
| Checking nameserver change | It can take about a day to take effect |
| Nameservers do not match | Fix the nameservers at your registrar to match the values on the card. Until then, the records aren't actually used |
